Barnados Australia came into being around 1995; it was previously known as Dr Barnados in Australia. It offers a range of services to children and families including accommodation, childcare, support programs and temporary and permanent foster care. In the Australian Capital Territory, Barnardos Australia run the Barnados Children's Family Centre.
Barnardos Australia is a leading child welfare service provider. It offers family crisis support: crisis foster care, accommodation, brief interventions and practical assistance; family support: home visiting, respite care, childcare, group support and day programs; adolescent services: street work, accommodation and other specialised programs; and provides permanent care placements for children removed from their homes by the courts via foster care or adoption.
The archival collection held by Barnardos Australia includes photographs, films and memorabilia relating to Barnardos and its predecessors.
