Little Para House was opened in 1978 in Elizabeth Vale. It was run by the Little Para House Association Inc and operated as a youth shelter providing medium term accommodation for eight young people up to the age of 18 years. It also provided emergency accommodation.
From 1979 Little Para was licensed by the state government and received a financial aid to assist with its operation. From the early 1980s the shelter also received part funding from the Commonwealth Government under the Youth Services Scheme and its successor the Youth Supported Accommodation program.
The Little Para House Association made submissions to the 1982-85 Inquiry into Children in Institutional and Other Forms of Care. The shelter was also visited by the Inquiry's committee. During the 2004-2008 Children in State Care Commission of Inquiry, Little Para House also came under scrutiny in relation to an allegation of abuse at the Shelter. Little Para House is believed to have closed in 1984.
