The Status of Children Act 1996 (76/1996) was 'An Act to re-enact without any substantive changes provisions contained in the Children (Equality of Status) Act 1976 concerning the removal of legal disabilities of ex-nuptial children; to provide for parentage presumptions and parentage testing procedures; to repeal the Children (Equality of Status) Act 1976 and the Artificial Conception Act 1984'. This Act cleared away the last points of legal discrimination against children born to parents who were not married to each other, and covered some issues to do with establishing parenting in the Family Court and in IVF procedures. In 2014 this Act was current.
