The aim of the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle (ACPP) is to ensure that Aboriginal foster children are placed with Aboriginal families and raised in a culturally appropriate environment. Placement with an Aboriginal guardian allows children to learn about their own culture and language and retain their cultural identity. The ACPP was first incorporated into legislation in the Community Welfare Act 1983 and subsequently in the Adoption of Children Act 1994.
