Kormilda College was opened in Darwin by the Commonwealth Government in 1967. It operated as a hostel and boarding school for Indigenous children moving into secondary school education. From 1989 the Uniting Church and Anglican Church took over joint control of the College and it began to also provide education for day students and boarders from the broader community. Kormilda College closed in 2017 when it was taken over by Haileybury College.
Kormilda College was opened at Berrimah in Darwin by the Commonwealth Government in 1967. It operated as a hostel and boarding school for Indigenous children moving into secondary school education. The first 121 students came from 27 different remote Northern Territory communities, missions and stations. Communities that first sent children to the College included Elcho Island Mission, Hermannsberg Mission, Santa Teresa Mission, Goulburn Island Mission and Warrabri.
From 1989 the College came under the joint ownership of the Uniting Church and Anglican Church. The College continued to provide residential education programs for Indigenous children but also began to provide education for day students and boarders from the broader community.
Kormilda College was taken over by Haileybury College in 2017. In January 2018 the school continued operating on the site under the new name of Haileybury Rendall School, with the boarding house operation retaining the name of Kormilda.
