A Ministerial Advisory Council on Child Protection was established on 30 January 2003 with an independent chairperson. The multi-discipinary committee included senior representatives from government and non-government agencies, and members of the community. The Council advised the Minister on child protection matters. This Ministerial Advisory Council was still active in 2007 and possibly did not conclude until the end of the Carpenter Labor government's term of office in September 2008.
