Melbourne City Mission came into being in 1979. From 1970 and 1979 the organisation had been known as the Community Welfare Foundation. In 1979, it reverted back to the name Melbourne City Mission, which dates back to 1854. In around 2000 there was another name change, and it became Melbourrne Citymission.
