The Victorian Family Council was established in September 1958, at a meeting convened by the National Council of Women to 'consider the problems of breakdown in family life'. The objects of the Victorian Family Council were: to help safeguard and strengthen family life; to study those factors which promote sound family life and those which tend to cause its breakdown; to take any appropriate action to promote family welfare, and; to cooperate with and assist the work of statutory, governmental, municipal and other bodies, voluntary organizations and interested persons who are concerned with family welfare.
