Details
Windermere Child and Family Services takes its name from the location of the Melbourne Orphan Asylum from 1878, in Windemere Crescent, Brighton. Windermere came into being in the wake of changes at the Melbourne Orphanage. With the transition from institutional, congregate care to family group homes during the 1960s, the Orphanage became known as the Melbourne Family Care Organisation. In 1987, it became known as Family Action. Family Action established Windermere Child and Family Services (along with Mallee Family Care and Upper Mallee Family Care) and it ultimately became an independent organisation. In 2009, Windermere Child and Family Services is based in Narre Warren and operates in Melbourne's south-east corridor.
