Details

Kilmany Family Care came into being in 1979 when the Uniting Church appointed a new Council to be responsible for the management and policy of family group homes and the development of family and child welfare services in East Gippsland.

Kilmany Family Care was initially funded through the Uniting Church Department of Social Services (Interim) Task Group.

Whilst using the clerical services of Kildonan Homes for Children, it was financially independent of the Kildonan Council. Kilmany Family Care was initially funded through the Uniting Church Department of Social Services (Interim) Task Group.

Kilmany Family Care operated four family group homes in East Gippsland, including one house specifically for Aboriginal children, with an Aboriginal cottage mother. The family group homes were called: Fitzroy Street Family Group Home, Sale; Reeve Street (also known as Cunninghame) Family Group Home, Sale; Wallace Street Family Group Home, Bairnsdale; and Main Street Family Group Home, Bairnsdale.

Many staff members have had contact with former residents of Kilmany Park, and organised a reunion in 1996.

In 2002, the organisation became known as Kilmany UnitingCare.
