The Arthur Young Review of Services recommended that the Society for the Blind, Deaf and Dumb be separated into two organisations, one to offer services to people with visual disabilities and the other for those with hearing impairments. In 1987, the Society split into the Royal Guide Dogs and the Tasmanian Deaf Society or Tasdeaf.
