The Correspondence Files, dated from 1919 to 1998, are from the various government departments with responsibility for child welfare. There are items within this series relating to Tasmanian approved children's homes and government-run institutions for children.
Closed B75 years
B75 means that these records are closed to the general public for 75 years from the date of the last entry in them. They are administrative files that may contain personal information of more than one person. People wishing to access them should contact the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office as its staff can usually make the records available after removing the third party information.
There are registered administrative files which may contain personal information.
A master index (AD204) to various series of welfare case files (such as AA226) also contains references to some administrative files.
The sequence 5/16/1 Welfare Reports contain extracts from the Supreme Court's Miscellaneous files which concern the custody and guardianship of children.
