The Adoption (Review) Amendment Act 2016 (no 64 of 2016) amended the Adoption Act 1988. It was passed in December 2016, following an independent review of the Adoption Act, conducted in 2014-15. This act made significant changes to adoption law in South Australia.

Details

The main amendments that were passed in the Adoption (Review) Amendment Act 2016 related to:

  • children's rights
  • same-sex couples
  • adoption information vetoes
  • adoption of adults
  • keeping a child's original first name
  • birth certificates
  • charge of adoption orders

These changes were being implemented in stages.
