The Statutes Amendment and Repeal (Sentencing) Act 1988 (Act No.51/1988) was passed on 5 May 1988 and commenced Ss 3&4: 8 September 1988; ss 5, 6, 12, 15-20, 22-27, 30-39, 41-68, 70-78: 1 January 1989; remainder: 12 May 1988. This Act amended numerous other Acts, as per its full title: 'An Act to amend the Acts Interpretation Act 1915, the Children's Protection and Young Offenders Act 1979, the Corporal Punishment Abolition Act 1971, the Correctional Services Act 1982, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Act 1978, the Criminal Law Consolidation Act 1935, the Justices Act 1921, the Local and District Criminal Courts Act 1926, and the Road Traffic Act 1961; to repeal the Criminal Law (Enforcement of Fines) Act 1987, and the Offenders Probation Act 1913; and for other purposes.'
