The Prisons Act (No 12 of 33 Vic, 1869-70) was passed and commenced on 9 February 1870. Its full title was: An Act to consolidate and amend the Law relating to Prisons. It was repealed by the Prisons Act 1936 on 1 June 1937.
The Act had several amendments: Act No.884/1905, Act No.1090/1912, Act No.1190/1915, Act No.1647/1924, No 1677 of 1925, Act No.1880/1928, Act No.2190/1934, Act No.2287/1936, Act No.2293/1936.
