The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) is the national research and collecting institution for information and research about the cultures and lifestyles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past and present. It holds the world's most comprehensive collection of print, moving image, sound recordings and photographic materials relating to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.

Access Conditions

AIATSIS collections can be accessed in several ways including onsite in Canberra or through copies of material. Prior arrangement is required to access many of the materials held by Collections. Materials may be subject to access conditions imposed by Indigenous communities and/or depositors. Users are advised that access to some materials may be subject to these terms and conditions which the Institute is required to maintain.
