The Contact and Exchange Centre opened in November 1975 at Byron Place in Adelaide. It was established and run by an independent group of social workers and social work students from the South Australian Institute of Technology. It initially provided short term accommodation for homeless young people.. The Centre moved to Norwood in 1978 and was renamed the Norwood Youth Shelter.
