St Mary's Home, Taringa in Taringa was established in 1898. It was operated by the Society of the Sacred Advent until 1907 when the Committee of St Mary's Church of England Home took control. In 1919 St Mary's Home, Taringa amalgamated with the Brisbane Female Refuge and relocated to Bent Street, Toowong. The Home was renamed St Mary's Home, Toowong.
In 1896 Reverend George Frodsham accepted an appointment as rector of St Thomas' Church, Toowong, Brisbane. George Horsfall was the Chaplain of St Mary's Home when it was located at Taringa. Frodsham visited North Queensland in 1901 and next year was unanimously elected bishop of that diocese. In 1913 he resigned and returned to England.
