The Status of Children Act 1978 declared all children to be of equal status. It was an Act 'to remove the legal disabilities of children born out of wedlock and to declare with respect to the parentage of children'. The full title of this act is "An Act to remove the legal disabilities of children born out of wedlock" (Act no.30/1978). Because this act applies to children generally in both new and old legislation, it is both a principal and an amending act.
