This book is based on an exhibition held to mark the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Peel Island Lazaret. It contains a history of of the lazaret, photos, quotes from former patients and staff and copies of archival documents. Patients on Peel Island referred to their death as 'going to the gums'.
