St Mary's Child and Family Welfare Service was established as a local Central Australian based welfare agency of the Anglican Church in 1972. The name was later shortened to St Mary's Family Services. This organisation ran St Mary's Children's Village and three other town based cottages in Alice Springs. In the 1980s the organisation became Anglicare Central Australia. In 2002 it amalgamated with the Darwin based service, Anglicare Top-End, and the new entity became known as Anglicare NT.

St Mary's Child and Family Welfare Service was established as a local Central Australian based welfare agency of the Anglican Church in 1972. It's name was later shortened to St Mary's Family Services. The organisation ran St Mary's Children's Village and three other town based cottages in Alice Springs.

The original aims of St Mary's Child and Family Welfare Service outlined in their constitution were to provide:

(1) residential care for children who are unable to remain within their family group; (2) assistance to enable reinstatement of children within their family group; (3) after-care for children who have left St. Mary's; (4) accommodation for children requiring residential care whilst attending educational institutions in Alice Springs; (5) such other preventive, restorative and educational service as may be possible and necessary for children separated or likely to be separated from their family group.

In the 1980s St Mary's Child and Family Welfare Service became Anglicare Central Australia. In 2002 it amalgamated with the Darwin based service, Anglicare Top-End, and the new entity became known as Anglicare NT.
