The Adoption of Children Act 1994 repealed the Adoption of Children Ordinance 1964.
In accordance with the Community Welfare Act 1983, the Adoption Act 1994 included the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle. This act also recognised traditional Aboriginal marriages in relation to adoption.
In the Regulations under the Adoption of Children Act, dated 29 April 1994, a form was provided for a relinquishing parent to record his or her wishes regarding the suitability of adoptive parents, access to the child and in relation to giving or receiving information about the child.
