A 1979 research study, funded through the Commonwealth Government Social Welfare Commission. The aim of the study was to gain information about the reasons children entered children's homes, including 'socially based family crisis' and economic problems, as well as children who had suffered the breakdown of a foster placement.

A number of children's homes across Australia participated in this study.
