Challenge was the staff journal for the Child Welfare Department (1957-1970), the Department of Child Welfare and Social Welfare (1970-1973) and the Department of Youth and Community Services (1973-1975). It began as a typewritten pamphlet, with few illustrations and was run-off on a roneo machine, but began to look more polished by the end of its run.
Challenge is filled with personal news about staff, musings about child welfare policy and practice, stories about case work and fostering. It also contains some stories about children's homes.
This journal can be read in the Mitchell Library.
