Description
This thesis explores the complexity of the relationship between female missionaries, the Aboriginal people whom they sought to convert, the evangelical and revivalist traditions that underwrote their beliefs and practices, and their invisibility in church hierarchies. The study provides thoughtful insight into the operations and experiences of the Australian Aborigines Mission (AAM) and its successor, the United Aborigines Mission in Western Australia. A history of the antecedents of the AAM in New South Wales is also included.
