Description
This submission to the Senate inquiry describes a maternity home in Leichardt which is most likely The Margaret Hallstrom Home for Unmarried Mothers. The author describes a big old two storey house in a back street off Parramatta Road in Leichardt. She was taken there as a pregnant young woman and stayed with 12-15 other women. There was a house mother. The women lived in rooms divided by partitions, three to a room. She went from this Home to the South Sydney Women's Hospital to have her baby.
