Description
Cambodian man Buntha Nhem lost both parents and a brother under Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge regime of the 1970s. He and his brother eventually escaped to Thailand in 1982, and waited to be accepted as refugees by another country. They were brought to Australia with five other orphans in October 1983 - the first children accepted from Cambodia by Australia. They stayed at Burnside Home in North Parramatta. After ten months Burnside relocated them to a house in Lombard Street, Fairfield West, closer to the Cambodian community.
