DETAILS
The Western Youth Welfare Service (WYWS) in Ascot Vale was the Department's largest community treatment facility providing services to 200 young people per year.
The WYWS provided a residential hostel facility as well as separate day and evening programs for older and younger groups of boys and girls.
The residential hostel provided short term programs to prepare residents for a return home or private board. The day programs involved special work with young people experiencing severe difficulties at school, as well as assisting young working boys. The day programs provided short term intense supervision to assist young people to develop social and life skills.
