Most government records are open for research 30 years after the records were created. Some records may be subject to restrictions due to their sensitive or confidential nature.
Access to non-government and personal records is subject to conditions placed on material by the organisation or person depositing the records. The majority are open access, some require written permission from the depositor.
Please contact the Archives for information about how to apply for access to closed records. A number of Fact Sheets for researchers are available on the Archives website.
