Like the London City Mission, Hobart City Missioners were Protestant but non-denominational. They saw working class communities as a mission field because they seemed 'dark' and 'foreign' to them. One of their concerns was to prevent alcoholism and prostitution. City Missioners supported the campaign leading to the establishment of the Neglected Children's Department and helped its officers persuade parents to relinquish their children.
