The Norwood Youth Shelter was the new name for the Contact and Exchange Centre when it moved to Norwood in 1978. The shelter was run by an independent group of social workers and social work students from the South Australian Institute of Technology.
At Norwood the shelter focused on providing supportive longer term accommodation for young people coming out of institutional care. During the 2004-2008 Children in State Care Commission of Inquiry, the Norwood Youth Shelter came under scrutiny in relation to an allegation of abuse at the shelter. The exact closing date for the Norwood Youth Shelter is unknown but records suggest it may have closed in the 1980s.
