Rose Cottage was opened by the Anglican Church of Australia in Rose Street, Prospect on 19 September 1983. From 1988 it was funded by the Department of Family and Community Services, Anglican Child Care Services and the Department of Social Security. It was an older style Cottage with five bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Rose Cottage offered respite, emergency and temporary accommodation for children up to the age of 12 who were deemed to have behavioural dysfunctions. Children could stay at Rose Cottage for up to 12 months.
The Cottage was also involved in a therapeutic program for children who had been assessed as not being suitable for foster care placements. The program aimed to work with these children and their families towards their reunification.
Rose Cottage was licensed to accommodate six children at a time. On average it accommodated four. Children were placed at the Cottage by the Department.
Rose Cottage closed in 1993. The therapeutic program was moved to Farr Cottage at Nailsworth.
