On Wednesday 25 November 1863, a group of Brisbane citizens met with the purpose of establishing a Servants' Home in Brisbane. The proposal, to form a home where domestic servants could reside in between positions, was passed. A set of rules for the home were adopted and a Ladies' Committee and Gentlemen's Committee were elected to administer the Brisbane Servants' Home.
