The Presbyterian Church of Queensland which was formed in 1849, is a protestant church which continues to exist. In 1977, 75 percent of the Presbyterian Church of Australia joined with the majority of the membership of the Congregational Union of Australia and the Methodist Church of Australasia, to form the Uniting Church in Australia. The remaining 25 percent that did not join the Uniting Church continued as Presbyterian Churches. A number of children's homes in Queensland were run by the Presbyterian Church.
