In New South Wales, records relating to individuals, such as case files and correspondence are closed to public access for 100 years. Records such as registers and indexes are closed to public access for 80 years. Individuals can apply to request access to records in this series. Access to these records is restricted. People wishing to access restricted records can either contact their nearest Community Services Centre to apply or they can post the information; an application form must be completed together with proof of identity provided.
The first register which dates from 7 May 1906 to 31 December 1918 relates to the Parramatta Industrial School for Girls and Parramatta Girls' Training Home and is arranged alphabetically by surname. Details recorded include the name of the child, their age on the date of committal, the date of the committal, the offence, the name of their parent or guardian, the character of their parents and their home surroundings, maintenance orders and any remarks. The volume also includes a list of girls as on 1 January 1918.
The second volume relates to Kamballa and is from 28 June 1976 to 14 April 1978 and is arranged in chronological order by date of admission. Details recorded include the date admitted, the person's full name, date of birth, religion, the date of committal, the offence, the review month and for recommendation.
