Glossary terms starting with the letter R:

  • Receiving Agency – Receiving agencies were organisations named as the custodian of child migrants.
  • Receiving Home – Receiving Homes provided short term accommodation before a child was placed in foster care or another institution.
  • Reception Centre – Reception Centres were designed to provide short term accommodation for children before they were placed in an institution or in foster care.
  • Reformatory – Reformatories were first established in the nineteenth century, as institutions for children who had been convicted of offences.
  • Residential Care – Residential care is a contemporary term for out-of-home care that is not home-based (like foster care or kinship care).
