yourtown was created in 2016, it was formerly known as BoysTown Ltd. The organisation provides a range of services to young people, including education, counselling, peer support, employment and social welfare services. The organisation dates back to 1961 and BoysTown Beaudesert, a children’s Home that closed in 2001.
In 2016, the organisation explained the reasons behind the name change from BoysTown Ltd to yourtown.
‘Our organisation has changed so much since we started in 1961 … It is important for us to have an identity that reflects the inclusive nature of our work, after all we don’t just work with boys’.
The organisation stated that the name change was not to avoid being associated with BoysTown Beaudesert, a children’s Home run by the De La Salle brothers from 1961 to 2001. In 2016, yourtown’s website stated that the organisation was ‘committed to assisting where we can with the investigative process regarding claims’ of abuse of former residents of BoysTown.
