The Warrnambool Home for Boys was established in Warrnambool in 1972 by Father Tom Brophy to provide accommodation for boys in that area who were unable to live at home. It was renamed the Brophy Memorial Boys’ Home in 1976.
Father Tom Brophy established the Warrnambool Home for Boys in 1972 in a property in Kepler Street, Warrnambool. The property was offered rent free for twelve months. The Kepler Street property usually housed about 17 youths aged from 13 to 17 years.
In 1973 it moved to premises in Ardlie Street, Warrnambool. Father Brophy established the Home to prevent boys who could not live at home from being sent to orphanages which were located in Geelong or Ballarat.
After the death of Father Brophy in 1974, the home slowly wound down until 1976 when Bob Myers and a committee established the Brophy Memorial Home in Dalton Street, Warrnambool. The Hostel accepted young girls from 1978. It was to form the basis for the Brophy Family and Youth Services.
