The Tarragindi Lodge, in Prior Street, Tarragindi, was operated by the De La Salle Brothers (in conjunction with BoysTown). It was a Group Home for boys from BoysTown as they entered the labour market. Tarragindi Lodge opened in 1974, and was previously Albion Lodge. The institution was licensed as an independent hostel on 1 March 1980. Tarragindi Lodge was closed as a licensed residential care facility on 30 June 1991.
A 1976 publication described Tarragindi Lodge as a “Group Home for boys who had been at BoysTown and who were ready to become apprentices but who still needed some supervision” (Ann Amen, 1976).
It stated that the Group Home moved from Albion to Tarragindi in December 1974 and at that time the number of boys who could be accommodated was decreased from 18 to 8.
The book states that “The houseparents work closely with the boys and their employers. One of the Brothers from Boys Town spends two days weekly counselling the boys and supervising the houseparents. He also visit families of the boys where possible” (Ann Amen, 1976, p.8).
