The Southern Regional Resource Centre opened in January 1985. Unlike the other resource centres, it did not run many activities. Instead, since the southern region already had a wide range of community groups, it linked welfare workers to those. The Centre closed in the 1990s.
In 1985, staff at the Centre found camping programs for 25 teenagers. At the same time, they discovered that there was not enough of this kind of activity for teenagers and developed a holiday and camping program for them.
By 1988, the Centre had initiated holiday programs, community-based camps, and a pilot accommodation program for troubled teenagers at Bevis Marks, as well as after school and weekend activities for children in family group homes. These included abseiling, climbing, making kayaks, kayaking, rafting, and athletics.
The Centre also provided support to Family Group Homes in the south and took part in monthly meetings with the carers.
