The Public Institutions Act 1935 also known by its full title “An Act to provide for the Establishment and Regulation of Institutions for the Shelter, Care, or Detention of Aged, Infirm, and other Persons requiring Protection or Control” (Act no.26 Geo. V No.15) details the offences and subsequent penalties for inmates of institutions and superintendents of institutions. The Public Institutions Act 1935 also sets out who is responsible for the financial support of persons in institutions. This legislation was repealed by the Health (Regional Boards) Act 1991 (Act no.4/1991) on 1 July 1991. This legislation has also undergone a number of amendments over its life time.
