The Presbyterian Home for Mothers and Babies (also known as Koolkuna) was located in Redcliffe. The Home opened in around 1968 and continued to operate until around 1974. After it closed, it was converted by the Presbyterian Church into a Family Care Home, and later a refuge to provide emergency care and support to women and children.
A publication from 1968 stated that the Home in Redcliffe had accommodation for 12 “girls”, and described the activities at the Home:
“Girls assist with household duties. Leisure hours are spent in pursuing hobbies, facilities provided for continuing studies in commercial and home science fields” (Social Services Queensland, 1968)
In May 2022, the Presbyterian Church of Queensland and UnitingCare Queensland advised that unfortunately they cannot locate any records relating to the management of or residents at the Presbyterian Home for Mothers and Babies.
