Port Lincoln Family Home at 52 London Street, Port Lincoln, was purchased by the Department of Social Welfare and Aboriginal Affairs during the 1971-1972 financial year. It opened in 1973.

‘Family homes’ generally accommodated eight children or less in a family style setting. They provided emergency and short-term care for children while a family crisis was being assessed or while other placement options were being determined. The Department provided the home to the Family Home parents rent-free and paid them a subsidy for each child in care. The children attended local schools and lived as close to a ‘normal family life’ as possible.

The Port Lincoln Family Home closed in 1980.
