Mt Penang Juvenile Justice Centre at Kariong was the new name given in 1991 to the Mount Penang Detention Centre. It was run by the Department of Community Services. Mt Penang Juvenile Justice Centre closed in 1999 and its functions were taken over by Kariong Juvenile Correction Centre.
The site of Mount Penang Juvenile Justice Centre is, in 2021, part of the Mount Penang Parklands precinct, ‘a Central Coast destination for tourism, events, business and education’. Two juvenile justice facilities are located in the precinct.
