The Methodist Inland Mission was established by the Methodist Church of Australia in 1926. Its aim was to send missionaries into remote areas of Australia, including the Northern Territory. The Mission was administered by the Methodist Inland Mission Board. When the Methodist Church became part of the Uniting Church of Australia in 1977, missionary work was taken over by Frontier Services. In its early years the Methodist Inland Mission primarily operated through the work of travelling preachers who worked in cooperation with the Presbyterian Inland Mission.
