Marsden Home for Boys, Booval

Marsden Home for Boys, Booval, was operated by the Marsden Home for Boys Committee of the Queensland Congregational Union. It was licensed in 1962 under the State Children Act 1911 and the Children’s Services Act 1965 on 4 August 1966. The Home closed on 3 April 1974 and the boys were transferred to the Marsden Family Group Home in Brassall.

A publication from 1968 described Marsden Home as a “Christian rehabilitation home”:

Teenage delinquents. Each boy has his own private room with no security measures. Visiting by arrangement. Basic occupation is provided on the dairy farm and training given in agronomy, animal husbandry, welding, carpentry, etc. Boys are encouraged to undertake correspondence courses. Progressive assimilation in the community. Boys and staff share life as family. School: Correspondence with aid of visiting coaches (Social Services Queensland, 1968, p.108).
