Kandarik Cottage at Somerton Park was opened by the government in 1975. It was one of five independent cottages opened at the former site of Seaforth Home. In 1988 Kandarik Cottage was transferred to the Intellectually Disabled Services Council.
Kandarik Cottage at Somerton Park was opened by the Department of Community Welfare on 10 February 1975. It was one of five independent cottages that opened after the closure of the Seaforth Home. These included three new cottages, Kandarik, Tintoo and Morada Cottages. Two cottages formerly at Glandore Boys’ Home, Slade Cottage and Reception Cottage, were also relocated to the site of the former Seaforth Home at Somerton Park.
By the late 1980s only two of the five cottages still operated, Kandarik and Slade. At the time the department considered the Somerton Park site ‘the least satisfactory physical site owned by the Department for the care of children’. In 1988 Kandarik Cottage was transferred to the Intellectually Disabled Services Council.
