The Highgate Park Heritage Collection relates to The Home for Incurables and its successors, the Julia Farr Centre, Julia Farr Services and Highgate Park. The collection includes administrative records and a limited number of patient related records. The date range covered by the records and other material is 1879 to 2020.
The collection was held in the Heritage Room at Highgate Park. When that shut down in 2020, the records in the collection were moved to the State Archives of South Australia, and the memorabilia was transferred to the History Trust of South Australia.
Records in this collection are partially open. Many of the administrative records are on open access and available through the State Archives of South Australia.
Patient records are restricted from general access for 100 years. Access is provided to former patients and their families by making a Freedom of Information request to the Department of Human Services.
The Records in the Highgate Park Heritage Collection include:
Administrative records, including: Annual reports, financial and fundraising records, general administrative records, rules and regulations, minute books, visitors’ books, correspondence, nurses’ records and manuals, news clipping books, photographs and building plans.
There are a limited number of patient records. These include admissions and discharge registers, patient cards and medical books. Not all records are available for the full time period.
