Gribble, E.R.B. (Ernest Richard Bulmer) 1868-1957, Collected Papers, 1892-1970 is a manuscript collection held by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (manuscript number MS 1515). Ernest Gribble co-founded the Yarrabah Mission alongside his father, J.B. Gribble, which they ran until 1910. Ernest Gribble then held a number of religious roles at other missions, including Forrest River Mission and the Palm Island Aboriginal Settlement. This collection contains records from a number of missions in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, including Yarrabah Mission, Palm Island Aboriginal Settlement, Forrest River Mission, Groote Eylandt Mission, and Mitchell River Mission. The records include correspondence files, journals, business and personal papers, notebooks, notes on languages, manuscripts, articles, essays, and sermons written by Gribble, and newspaper articles. A small number of the records contain names of children who lived at missions, including letters written by children and other residents at Yarrabah and Forrest River, the matron’s log book for the Yarrabah girl’s dormitory, and a list of children attending school at Yarrabah. Journals written by Gribble during his time at Yarrabah and Palm Island may also mention individuals at the mission/settlement.
