Glynhyfryd Family Group Home, run by the government, opened in 1984. It was in Croesus Court, Lindisfarne. Glynhyfryd provided temporary accommodation to children who were wards of state or supervised in other ways by the Department of Community Welfare and its successor, the Department of Community Services. Glynhyfryd closed in 1993 and reopened in 1998. It closed again sometime in the 2000s.
Glynhyfryd provided accommodation for new wards of the state or children on remand from the courts until the Department found a more permanent placement for them. The Home also took in children requiring temporary accommodation and in transit between homes. Occasionally, family group homes offered longer term care to children who appeared to be suited to them.
A married woman managed Glynhyfryd with the assistance of her husband, who was in paid employment outside the Home. In return, they received free accommodation.
